A vacation taken in this area is untypical of the traditional sun, sand and sea vacation normally associated with the Algarve.
Looking for something different? Hire a car for a day and head out from your Algarve villa rentals to discover the town of Monchique situated in the Serra de Monchique countryside. Contrary to the perception that this region is dry and dusty, there are huge swathes of land covered in forests to be explored. In Monchique itself there is a very old church well worth visiting in addition to unique shops and quaint cafes. Another day trip idea involves driving to the ancient town of Silves, made famous by its historic castle that is open to the public.
