Holidays in Ibiza

Despite being the smallest of three Balearic Islands, located in the Mediterranean, off the east coast of Spain, Ibiza has perhaps the largest reputation of them all. Its legendary nightlife above all else has made holidays in Ibiza a must visit destination for party animals and clubbers from all over Europe and beyond.

Nightclubs aside the island also has a steady reputation as a family destination and a number of its smaller resorts have little to do with the island’s wilder side. Indeed, those who find themselves renting Es Cana accommodation in Ibiza never leave the resort, finding everything they need in the compact little town, including excellent seafood, a choice of beaches and great water sports.

For others, Ibiza’s rugged interior offers the chance to escape to a secluded luxury villa away from the coast, using it as a base to explore some of the island’s more genteel beaches and communities.

Puerta del San Miguel, with its wide stretch of sand and dramatic sea cliffs, is a favourite with many who opt to stay in elegant country house hotels in the hills above the town. Another popular choice in the north is renting self-catering apartments in Portinatx, with its understated resort atmosphere. The town offers a good selection of restaurants coupled with child friendly beaches and shallow waters, making it a favourite with young families.

Much of Ibiza is a protected United Nations World Heritage Site, and it contains numerous treasures away from its bustling coastal towns and cities. Many of the island’s old villages have changed little over the centuries and it has a number of important villas and remote country houses, which retain a uniquely Balearic character. Increasingly, small groups are deciding to stay in traditional Ibiza holiday rentals up in the hills around San Juan, driving to their favourite beaches and restaurants, and enjoying the blissful evening sunsets.

But the island’s main tourist destinations remain close to its twin party capitals, the glamorous old capital Eivissa and the rather more developed San Antonio.

No self catering holiday on Ibiza is truly complete without a visit to one of its world famous clubs, which rock the island virtually round the clock, and a sunset drink at the legendary Café Del Mar, where jugglers, acrobats and fire breathers entertain cocktail sipping crowds every evening.

San Antonio is particularly attractive to young Brits and its ‘West End’ district could easily pass for an English town centre during the busy summer months, when thousands cram its beaches and bars before heading to clubs like Space and Privilege to dance the night away.

A twenty-minute drive away lies the island’s capital, which despite being a clubbing hotspot itself, has a more laid back, Mediterranean feel. While some opt to stay in the chic boutique apartments of Eivissa town, most prefer nearby resorts such as Playa d’en Bossa, where staying in an holiday apartment is a great choice for friends holidaying together. By no means any less commercial, clubs like Es Paradis in Eivissa’s Marina, and the nearby Pacha, offer a slightly more upmarket brand of nightlife.

Whichever way you decide to experience a holiday in Ibiza, you’ll quickly find yourself entranced by its beautiful beaches, glorious sunsets, friendly people and relaxing ambience. Even if it does come with a pumping soundtrack. Interested? Why not search for holiday villas in Ibiza or apartments in Ibiza right now!
