Among the many resorts is Playa Blanca, situated on the southern most point of the island the renowned Papagayo Beach offers plenty of opportunities for children to enjoy the clear water, while parents can relax in its warm golden sand. Banana boat rides, surfing and pedalos are just some of the ways you can while away a sun-drenched day by the water. The area is also lined with bars offering drinks and food to the many beachgoers. Once the day is done, returning to your holiday home in Playa Blanca can be another treat to look forward to. The resort offers some of the finest villa rentals which are ideal for couples or larger family groups.

Further along the west coast is the more lively resort of Puerto Del Carmen – an ideal location if you want to indulge in the islands finest cuisine and vibrant nightlife. The main strip along the beach front is where you will find most of the resorts restaurants, a great location for looking out over the ocean at night with many specialising in seafood from the region. For such a popular tourist area as Puerto Del Carmen, these tend to be reasonably priced and can offer good deals for families. There are also plenty of late bars and nightclubs on the strip and in the nearby streets and again, they don’t normally charge extortionate tourist rates.

The resorts most popular beach is known as the Playa Grande and there are a whole host of activities to be found on this long beach front. Para-sailing, snorkelling, jet-ski rental and even diving lessons are just some of the ways you can entertain yourself, or others, while enjoying the sun and the sea.

Lanzarote Holiday accommodation in Puerto Del Carmen can also be found in close proximity to the water, with such a vast range of apartments to suit whatever your needs might be. Many of the apartment complexes combine Canary-style architecture and design with modern conveniences, and a pool on site is almost as standard. However, the Old Town district of the resort should also be considered, it can offer some really quaint and charming apartment rentals surrounded by its historic and traditional way of life.

One of the best advantages to Puerto Del Carmen is its close location to some of the islands famous volcanic landscapes. Once you start to venture further inland you will see why Lanzarote is listed as one of the Worlds UNESCO protected sites. Take a trip into the La Geria region and you will be embraced by the serene atmosphere and unique agricultural landscape.

This is also the most famous wine producing area of Lanzarote and the region is given its unique appearance by the ‘enarenado naturál’ – a vast collection of hollows dug out of the ash-laden ground to plant vines. Wine connoisseurs will be pleased to know that many bodegas throughout La Geria offer visitors a chance to sample the local produce.

Heading directly north of the region and you will come to one of the islands main attractions, Timanfaya National Park – home to the formidable Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) that were created by the eruption of the islands volcanoes in the 1700s. The view from the top of these peaks is literally breathtaking and gives you the perfect opportunity to see the unique terrain of Lanzrote in all its glory. Its hard to believe just how hot it is under the surface, where it can reach temperatures of up to 600ºC. Dry plants seem to spontaneously combust when thrown into a shallow hole, while water poured into a bored hole in the ground bursts out in a geyser-like fashion. Fortunately, the restaurant inside the park, convenient ally named ‘El Diablo’, offers visitors a chance to cool off and take in the scenery while enjoying the local cuisine. Camel rides across the desert-like landscape are also available.

The intense volcanic activity that the island has seen over the years has produced some other awe-inspiring attractions, such as the Cueva de los Verdes, which are located in the northern corner of the island and close to the town of Haria. Formed by a lava tube over 3,000 years ago, it is a stunning winding labyrinth of colourful rock and eerily still water that extends for over six kilometres. It also houses a natural auditorium where concerts are performed. One of the caves best kept secrets is the surprise that awaits visitors at the end of their guided tour.

Once you make it back into the sunlight, a visit to Haria is a must. This small town has some of the best architecture of Lanzarote and provides a glimpse into the traditional life of its population. Situated in the valley of a thousand palms the centre of the town is where you can visit a real Canarian market in the surroundings of the wonderfully ornate buildings and streets. Villa rentals around Haria are highly recommended for couples and small groups looking to steer away from the popular resorts.

With such a vast array of sights and activities on the island, it is no wonder it appeals to so many different types of holidaymakers. With its unrivalled scenery and the romantic atmosphere of its villages and towns, renting holiday accommodation in Lanzarote could be just what you need.
