Journalists to get the true taste of Britain

67 influential travel writers from around the world are being treated to a three week tour of the UK this month, as part of a big new drive by travel bosses to attract more tourists from overseas. VisitBritain has organised the trip, which begins with a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Prince Philip, before zig-zagging its way across the country.

But instead of five star hotels and luxury restaurants the journalists, who have been invited from Europe, Asia and America, will be staying in bed-and-breakfast accommodation and dining in local pubs. VisitBritain wants to showcase high quality private accommodation and the exceptional value currently offered by UK holidays, in a bid to lure foreign visitors on the back of a weakened pound.
