Blackpool plans service with a smile
Workers in the travel industry have given a big thumbs up to a new course, launched in Blackpool, which aims to improve customer service and train staff to work with tourists. 'Welcome to Blackpool' is a joint venture between the Lancashire Tourist Board and Blackpool Council, which will be rolled out over the entire region if proved successful. Designed to give workers and employers specific advice and training, in face-to-face contact and how best to harness new technologies, more than 3,000 people signed up for the course within days of its announcement, as businesses in the rejuvenated seaside town jostle to attract an increasing number of visitors.
Speaking at the launch of the scheme, Mike Wilkinson - chief executive of the Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board - said that improving customer service and user experience were at the core of the region's bid to re-establish itself as a premier holiday destination. 'Giving our visitors everything they want is the key to the successful revival of our resorts', claimed Wilkinson, who believes increasingly discerning and demanding customers will dictate which of Britain's traditional seaside destinations benefit most, from the growing number of people choosing to holiday at home.
