Warminster is a delightful small town, found nestling amongst the chalk downs of the Wilshire countryside. Sitting at the head of the Wylye Valley (one of England's most beautiful though less publicised spots), the once important market town of Warminster is full of character and Olde Worlde charm. The name is derived from Were-minster, as the River Were runs serenely through the middle of the town past the lovely old church of St Denys.
Warminster retains much of its old charm and elegance, with many original buildings still standing, and plenty of inns, taverns and restaurants serving the very best in English cuisine and ales. Famous for its UFO sightings in the 1970s and the appearance of many hitherto as yet unexplained crop circles Warminster offers a little mystery, amidst the beauty of the Wiltshire countryside and the town should definitely be on your list of places to visit.
