Travel Tips - Gourdon, France
Gourdon is a beautiful small French town perched high in the Ales Maritimes in the Provence region of southern France, from whence you can look out across the stunning landscape where you can see from Nice to Theoules ranging against the Mediterranean coast. Sat at a height of 760M Gourdon is known locally as ìthe eagleís nestî and looks majestically down over the Rover Loup. The best view from this gorgeous village is from the small church.
The Chateau de Gourdon, which houses the medieval Museum of Decorative Arts, is well worth a visit, sat in its beautiful grounds designed by celebrated French landscaper Andre le Notre. Gourdon is a truly lovely little village with its medieval streets lovingly restored and where you will find many splendid artisan shops selling perfumes and works of local handicraft. It you feel adventurous you can try and reach Gourdon via the old mule path from Bar-sur-Loup; not for the faint of heart. Gourdon is certainly a village to add to your ìmust seeî list of places.

The village is perched on top of this mountain which is a relatively easy walk. There are wonderful views of the Cote D'Azur and lots of cafes and restaurants to chose once there. Walking shoes are advisable.
Most of the local paragliders start on the hills behind Gourdon and fly around the village of Gourdon. Its a spectacular sight and well worth the walk up.

The best place to eat in Gourdon is at the end of the village where the view is. The food is simple and in expensive but service can be a bit slow so expect a bit of a wait as it gets busy. The other restaurant (Le Nid d'Aigle) is probably the most spectacular one, with three menu prices going from Gastronomic to simple, however it is quite expensive, particularly for the quality of food you get, so might be worth giving this a miss.
