Travel Tips - Monaco, France

Monaco, the fabled home of Amercan film star Grace Kelly (sadly deceased), and Prince Rainier, whose fairy tale marriage in the 1956 captured the hearts of romantics around the world. The most densely populated and, second only to Vatican City, the smallest sovereign country in the world, Monaco can be found nestling on the south Mediterranean coast of France. The glamorous Monaco is home to many wealthy foreigners sheltering in this well renowned tax haven.

As befits the high class image of glitz and luxury, Monaco hosts the most famous street Grand Prix in the world and the formulas one racing cars scream like banshees through narrow streets and round the impossibly tight hair pain bends of this wondrous city-come-country once every year. The smallest French speaking country in the world, Monaco just has to be on your 'places to visit' list. It's a delightful glimpse into the world of 'how the other half live'. Don't miss it!

Monte Carlo Racetrack with a Hire Car

A trip to Monaco would not be complete with at least one lap of the Formula One track!

Race day is in May, and it's great to say you've driven the same circuit as the likes of Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton!

The starting grid has been permanently painted on the street by a set of traffic lights, however be warned, a police man is usually waiting on the hill as you approach the casino, so watch your speed!

Monaco - great restaurant for the kids that won't break the bank!!

As you look out from the swimming pool/harbour toward the sea, on your right there is a low lying office. On the ground floor is Stars and Bars, an American style restaurant right on the 'Rass Cass' bend. Food ranges from burgers, ribs, pasta and sushi along with lots of Formula One memorabilia including a Formula one car suspended from the ceiling. Stars and Bars is a great place for kids, and it's quite reasonably priced for the area.

Look out for the Stars and Bars American restaurant on the Rass Cass bend.

The only way to see the race is to buy a ticket and get into one of the stands around the track. Believe me if you think you might be able to see any part of the race without a ticket - forget it. They put barriers all around the track that you cannot see over. The only way is to watch it on one of the many bars and restaurants who will have a TV showing the race. Prices will be high for food and drinks

Stand seats cost from 270 euro to 450 euro (overlooking Casino) each

Tickets for the Monaco Grand Prix are available via:
Automobile Club de Monaco

From Nice Airport to Monaco its only 99€. Other trips include to St Tropez, Cannes, Nice, The Alps, Courcheval and Isola 2000 (ski resorts). There are lots of packages to chose from including golf, gastronomy and spas so forget the traffic in the summer as this really is the ultimate way to travel along the coast!
