Travel Tips - Vence / St Paul de Vence, France
St Paul de Vence has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful villages in the world, and it truly deserves it too. Set betwixt the mountains and the sea, (The Mediterranean, the Cap d'Atibes, the Alps, and the Esterel Mountains), the village environs has 3000 inhabitants in total, only 300 of which live in the actual village itself. The villageís closest airport is nearby Nice which is only a 20 minute taxi ride away. St Paul is the third most visited place in France with over 2.5 million tourists coming here every year; only Mont St Michel and the Chateau de Versailles claim more visitors.
Such is the beauty and architectural significance of St Paul de Vence that France has deemed it part of its national natural heritage under protection from the law. A walk through the narrow winding streets is obligatory, and something of a journey of discovery. There are paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glassware, and other unique works of art just waiting to feast your eyes upon. This medieval, fortified village just has to be seen to be believed. Take a walk up to 'the vue' (view). The scenery is breathtaking with the snow capped Alps on one side, and the glittering blue Mediterranean on the other. Stunning! Make sure a visit to this beautiful village is on your 'place to go' list, you won't be disappointed

Wander around the cobbled streets, stop for lunch at the Colombe D'Or for lunch where works from Picasso, Miro and Braque hang on the walls or simply grab a coffee and watch the world go by (as well as the boules matches) from Cafe Della Place just outside the fortified walls.
St Paul de Vence is an essential sight and makes a great day out, however because of this it can get extremely busy at weekends.
For some simple inexpensive food try The Malabar. They have a great Plat Du Jour (dish of the day), as well as lovely salads, pasta and burgers for the kids – all home made.
Prices including wine should be around 10 euro per person. As you enter St Paul through the small tunnel entrance turn immediately right and the Malabar will be found on your left just past a couple of art shops. Fabulous views from here to the coast.
