About Steve and Clare Dance
Moved to France to escape the weather back in " Blighty". Love the way of life here, the politeness of the French ( yes they are here despite what you may have experienced in Paris!) as well as the relaxed atmosphere and of course lovely weather that stretches from early May to the end of October

Historic Grasse on the Cote d'Azur

Grasse has been a popular tourist town for several centuries, with the smell of flowers and clear air. The altitude of the town, from 300-400 m, and the hills behind give Grasse a fresher climate than the beach during the heat of the summer. Princess Pauline Bonaparte, the Emperor's sister, spent the winter of 1807-08 in Grasse, recuperating her mental and physical strength. Queen Victoria vacationed through several winters in Grasse, staying at the Rothschild's or at the Grand Hotel.

Napoléon himself passed through Grasse on 2 March 1815, but didn't have time for vacationing. He had just escaped from Elba!

Gourdon - where the eagles and paragliders fly!

Spectacular views. 2,500 feet above sea level. Nice old castle to wander around, perfume factory, shops, restaurants and lots of hang gliders flying

The best place to eat in Gourdon is at the end of the village where the view is. The food is simple and in expensive but service can be a bit slow so expect a bit of a wait as it gets busy. The other restaurant (Le Nid d'Aigle) is probably the most spectacular one, with three menu prices going from Gastronomic to simple, however it is quite expensive, particularly for the quality of food you get, so might be worth giving this a miss.

Valbonne - The Best street market in the area

Quite the reverse of most Provençal villages, Valbonne was built along the lines of a strict plan drawn up by the monks of the islands of Lérins off Cannes. The village is enclosed by fortified houses and counts 4 entrances, one on each side and making your way through the labyrinth of streets in the old village will take you to the 17th century Place des Arcades and the Hotel de Ville with it's 19th century belfry.

Enjoy a range of excellent restaurants, interior design shops and artist galleries or on Fridays visit on of the best open street markets which is sprawled across the villages tiny cobbled streets. Well worth a visit for those holiday presents.

Location: Valbonne - close to Cannes/Grasse

Cannes - Film Festival, Fireworks, chic shops and the stars

Cannes - Film Festival, Fireworks, chic shops and the stars

This is one of the most famous promenades in the world. For three kilometres following the curve of the bay one can see flowering gardens, lawns planted with palm trees, umbrella pines and other trees all the way to Port Canto, Palm Beach and a sea water health spa.

Famous for the film festival, luxury yachts and a lovely sandy beach. From May to the end of Septemebr there are firework displays in the bay every week - usually on Friday and Saturday. If you think you have seen a good firework display wait until you see the ones in Cannes. No expense is spared and they are spectacular. All done to music. How cool is that!!
