Chamonix, the oldest ski resort in France, has long been a popular winter sports destination and with the variety of stunning slopes on the nearby Mont Blanc, it is without doubt one of the world's premier skiing and snowboarding locations. But there is far more to this stunning resort than just the winter sports action on the piste and after you've kicked off your skis, you can still find plenty of attractions to keep you entertained, which are sure to appeal to all ages.

The resort is only moments away from the breathtaking Chamonix Valley, where you can discover some exhilarating ice climbing, rock climbing and an abundance of hiking and mountain bike trails.

However, if you really want to appreciate the captivating Alpine landscapes, there is no better way than to take a ride on the Aiguille du Midi Cable Car. Among the highest cable cars in the world, this ride goes right up to the peak of the Petit Dru. It is not for those who are afraid of heights, but bravery will be rewarded with some truly awe-inspiring views across the Alpine peaks.

Back on solid ground, the centre of the resort has something that will appeal to all tastes. Ski schools, toboggan rides and an ice staking rink are all ideal for younger visitors, while older visitors can enjoy the variety of shops on offer. Bars and traditional restaurants, which serve up local delicacies, are plentiful in the town centre, and are ideal apres-ski.

If you are looking to get away from the post-Christmas January blues, there is no better destination than this famous resort. Whether it's for a romantic escape or family adventure, Chamonix accommodation is available to to suit everyone's requirements, with a wide variety of ski chalets and holiday apartments on offer.
