How many BA miles to fly me to the moon?
It must be high on the list of every youngster staring into the night sky, well maybe not exactly. Each one of us has thought of taking to the sky in one way or another: as a means to an end, the old A through to B, the package holiday cattle cart in the sky, taking us off to the promise of distraction, clear sky, and golden sands.

When did this happen? When did we start to take for granted this miraculous feat of engineering, when did become a bus in the sky? It must be said that many of us now hop on and off planes with such frequency and ease, that the greatest sense of aw is often at the length of the Que, at all of customs, security, post security security, and if u happen to be passing through England's Gatwick the post, post, security...seriously just smile and contain you inner calm. The guards can sense your frustration and it sustains them! Naturally non of this is of any concern to the untouchables of air travel, in Virgin Upperclass, you all know who you are; but even here the means of the conveyance takes second seat to the comfort and convenience where the main event is often the anticipation of the menu.

But what about the plane, does anyone worry about how this behemoth gets off the ground let alone stay up there; clearly not though I must admit to feeling some comfort from being seated near the exit. We have just about reached the point to where like the bumble bee we see the common place and view it commonly.

Well now I come back to my question, just how many BA miles would it take to fly me to the moon? A question which probably fermented from childhood encounters in space. Imagined admittedly, but born from a diet of StarWars and Si-fi which made the wondrous become mundane, even though the reality was much more terrestrial. Now I ask the question and it's not so outlandish as it may sound, certainly not if instead of miles I had been saving my pennies. It seems that whilst my miles are unlikely to to take me even to NewYork; 200k in hard cash can get me a ticket to the moon, or dam near! It seems that everything is on track for the first flight of Virgin Galactic, after talk of inflatable hotels in space and the worlds richest nations struggling to compleat a much scaled back international space station, it seems once more we can rely upon her Majesty's most entrepreneurial Knight to deliver the future. Once more the wonder of flight becomes the focus; the journey the main event, and the vehicle a wonder! Here's hoping that one day Sir Richard Branson will be redeeming Virgin Galactic miles, and our only decision will be whether to upgrade to Galactic Upperclass!
